Great Dorset Bike Ride - 2010
Dorset’s greatest family fun ride!
Welcome
When is the 2010 ‘Great Dorset’?
Sunday 6th June.
Where does the ride start?
The ‘Great Dorset’ starts at a Council run car park called ‘Top 0 Town’ car park. It boasts good toilet facilities, a café, and car parking is just 50p for the whole day on Sundays (only!). All in all it’s an ideal place to start and end a bike ride!
Everyone is very welcome
Organised by Dorchester Cycles for anyone who wants to come along. Everyone is welcome on the ride – it’s free – no need to book – just turn up on the day and have some fun!
It’s a fifty mile ride!
Please don’t be put off by the distance involved.
It really is an easy ride if, as intended, you take it gently and take the whole day over it!
If you get away with the mass start at ten o’clock and finish at, say five o’clock that gives you seven hours to get round the route.
You only have to average about 7mph. Take an hour out for meals etc and you still only have to average 8.5mph.
Most cyclists can comfortably average 10mph.
Make a fun day of it!
Get together with friends, family, neighbors and work colleagues and get up a group and do the ride together. More banter, more jokes, the miles will fly by and you will have even more fun!
Detailed Route
CLICK HERE for the route description. We recommend you print it out and take it with you. The route is signposted but you can never be too careful – it’s easy to take a wrong turn and there are no little yellow ride signposts off the route!
If you are going to ‘highlight’ this route onto a map (a good idea) you will need two! Ordinance Survey “Landranger” series maps numbers 194 and 195. (Our own Map may help with this - CLICK HERE FOR MAP)
We hope the weather is kind to you, enjoy the route and ride safely.
